GIBSON SG SPECIAL – 1975

SERIAL NUMBER: 114945
DATE: 1975

Gibson SG`s have one really nice feature that’s not necessarily visible: If you have a Les Paul, your
sound is often too fat for a lot of songs that call for a clean chiming sound like a Stratocaster, and
conversely if you have a Stratocaster your sound might lack the all out punch of humbuckers for stuff
that was played on a Les Paul….. but the SG Special has the ability to tread territory somewhere in
between the two due to the smaller sized humbuckers issued with this model -best of both worlds
really [well almost].

Somewhat underrated, the SG range in general can in fact be quite a versatile tool in the right hands:
from the heavy metal thunder of Tony Iommi, blues ala Eric Clapton, the sweet singing sustaining
sound of early Santana, to the pop sensibilities of Elliot Easton of The Cars.

1975 got rid of the large Schaller Bridge on the Special that had been a feature for some years and
returned to the Tune-O-Matic bridge style, and the whole instrument looks somehow the better for
it.

The small humbuckers look sort of P90`ish, but they have a much fatter and fuller sound
characteristic.
All in all this is a very good condition guitar.

Tune-O-Matic bridge for 1975,
This year also reinstated the body bevelling on the cutaway which was not on the previous models,
