LES PAUL GOLDTOP – 1956…..SOLD !!!

SERIAL NUMBER: 613098
DATE: 1956

Exquisite neck, original frets….. plays and feels just like it should!

The Tele, the Strat and the Les Paul: the most important thing they have in common is the fact that in each case, Leo and Gibbo got it exactly right, and in each case no one has really improved on them, not even their own creators !

The `55 and `56 Goldtops were a step up from their predecessors due to the ‘stop tailpiece’ and ABR- 1 adjustable bridge, which was a huge technological advance at the time.

In `57 the humbucker arrived, so this was the end of production for the P90 Les Paul models at this stage. In addition the original models were available only in black or gold finish as this was an attempt to hide the fact that the Mahogany body had a Maple cap underneath [in order to brighten up the sound of what would have been a darker sounding instrument without it].

However,by late `57 knowledge of the Maple cap was public, so there was no need to hide it any longer and hence the Sunburst finish [including the legendary ‘Flame’ tops] debuted in ‘58.

This then is the last year of the original Les Paul P90’s, and is a nice playing example of it – been around the block more than once but still plays well!
